The Lamino chair was created in 1956 and has been in continuous production ever since and was voted the best Swedish furniture of the 20th century by a jury of specialized journalists. The condition of this original piece attests to the quality and endurance of the chair's craftmanship.
Yngve Ekström (1913-1988) was a Swedish furniture designer, wood carver, sculptor and architect and an important figure in the evolution of the Scandinavian Modernism movement. He co-founded the furniture manufacturer ESE-möbler (later renamed Swedese) with his brother Jerker and business partner Sven Bertil Sjöqvist. He worked at Swedese for over 40 years until his death in 1988. He was also a prolific wood carver and sculptor, creating many works of art for public spaces. He was inspired by nature, organic forms and his childhood in Småland. He once said: "I designed Lamino with the human body as a starting point, making it as pleasant to look at as to sit in".
